Tourism has a vital role to play in the continuing economic success and development of both Cheshire and the North West region as a whole. It remains one of the fastest growing areas of the Cheshire economy with a total value worth over £800 million.
A diverse range of visitor destinations attract tourists from across the UK and overseas. Great houses such as Tatton Park or Lyme Park reflect the wealth and influence of a county that is still one of the most prosperous in Britain. The great radio telescope at Jodrell Bank highlights Cheshire's continuing role as a centre of scientific discovery - and the Roman city of Chester, with its rich heritage, provides the visitor with an insight into the county's long and colourful history.
2008 is Cheshire's Year of Gardens - in fact one in eight of all UK garden visits take place here. More than 30 beautiful gardens await visitors to the county during this 12 month celebration. For more information please visit: Discover Cheshire
The county's scenic countryside also attracts walkers, cyclists and horseriders, who not only enjoy the secluded pathways, peaceful cycleways and leafy bridleways - they can also drop in on ancient country pubs, cosy tea rooms or stay in welcoming farmhouse B&B's. For information on all Cheshire's promoted walking, cycling and riding routes, as well as country parks and rural attractions visit Discover Cheshire From here you can download maps and directions as well as find out further information on places to visit, eat and drink and accommodation near your chosen route.
