My News

About Me

I have lived with my wife on Prestbury Road, Macclesfield, for over 20 years; our two sons are now working away from Macclesfield. I am a Chartered Quantity Surveyor by profession and have been self employed for a number of years.

I have been County Councillor for Macclesfield Broken Cross since 2001, and County Council Executive Member for Human Resources since 2003. I am also a member of the Cheshire Fire Authority and serve on the governing bodies of Fallibroome High School and Macclesfield High School.

I regularly deal with issues and problems raised by constituents, and if you need to contact me please telephone, write or email as above.

Anti-Social Behaviour or Worse

To contact the Macclesfield Neighbourhood Policing Unit about local issues or concerns, an ongoing inquiry, or to find out about Police initiatives tel 0845 458 6371.

To contact the Cheshire Constabulary to report a crime or non-emergency incident tel 0845 458 0000.
For emergency calls only ring 999.

Highways Problems?

Dangerous footways, blocked road gullies, street lights out, roadworks not progressing? To report these or other problems concerning highways:  telephone Cheshire County Council, Macclesfield Highways Office, 0845 111 1145 (24 hours).

Litter

Wouldn’t Macclesfield be a lot nicer place without litter? Lots of litter on the streets arises from food, snacks or drinks.  What can we do about it?
We can all make sure it is not us who drops it, and we could all pick up any dropped outside our own house.  Schools and parents could educate our young to be more aware and thoughtful. What ideas do you have?

Smiley SID (Oct 07)

A group of volunteers took it in turns earlier this year to mount Speed Indicating Devices on Victoria Road and Prestbury Road in an effort to moderate the speed of those drivers who break the 30mph limit. The device displays a smiling face to vehicles within the speed limit, but those exceeding it get a frown and an indication of the speed they are doing. A prick of conscience hopefully follows the frown, and an understanding that speed limits are for the safety of all. If you want to volunteer to mind SID for the odd hour in the future, please contact David Freear.

Henbury High School Site (Oct 07)

Once Henbury High School has been demolished, the site has planning permission for approximately 130 houses to be built towards the western end, with the remainder being open space, sports pitches, a children’s play area, and changing facilities. Wimpey have bought the site and say they are planning to start work in November. The Borough will be responsible for the community facilities and we shall ensure they consult with local residents on their development, which should be in parallel with the house building.

New Macclesfield Train Timetable Will Result In Poorer Birmingham Service – Warns County Councillor

Changes to Macclesfield’s train service to Birmingham will result in a poorer service and overcrowding on trains – says Macclesfield’s Broken Cross County Councillor David Freear.

The new timetable published in December will see a reduction in the number of trains stopping at Macclesfield station from two per hour down to one.

“This is a ridiculous situation which is to the detriment of Macclesfield” said County Councillor Freear who also raised the issue at Council.
