Henbury High School Site (Oct 07)Once Henbury High School has been demolished, the site has planning permission for approximately 130 houses to be built towards the western end, with the remainder being open space, sports pitches, a children’s play area, and changing facilities. Wimpey have bought the site and say they are planning to start work in November. The Borough will be responsible for the community facilities and we shall ensure they consult with local residents on their development, which should be in parallel with the house building.

New Macclesfield Train Timetable Will Result In Poorer Birmingham Service – Warns County Councillor
Changes to Macclesfield’s train service to Birmingham will result in a poorer service and overcrowding on trains – says Macclesfield’s Broken Cross County Councillor David Freear.
The new timetable published in December will see a reduction in the number of trains stopping at Macclesfield station from two per hour down to one.
“This is a ridiculous situation which is to the detriment of Macclesfield” said County Councillor Freear who also raised the issue at Council. [Read full story...] | |

Hospital development: the Blue Zone (Oct 07) As part of plans to develop further facilities at the Hospital, Macclesfield Hospital Trust are planning to sell off 3 hectares (approximately 7 acres) of land and buildings they have identified as surplus. What they are calling the Blue Zone is to the east of the main hospital building and bounded by the end of Victoria Road, the length of Prestbury Road by the main park entrance, and round onto Cumberland Street. Buildings on the site are largely historic ones to be preserved and put to new uses, or more modern system built ones, to be demolished to make way for new building. A Draft Planning Brief has been issued by the Trust in conjunction with the Borough Council indicating smaller houses and apartments as the most likely uses, with a hotel, community uses and a small element of offices as possibilities. Road access to the site is likely to be onto the Cumberland Street roundabout. This is not a planning application: that would come later from the developer. The Trust hopes this stage would be during 2008.
Parking The hospital are planning to launch a new Travel Plan in November 2007 in an effort to get staff to abandon their cars. The effect of this and the new development on the Blue Zone will be examined carefully to guard against additional on-street parking problems.

The Whitfields Parking Restrictions (Oct 07)Following complaints about parking overflowing from the hospital as far as The Whitfields, informal surveys indicated that residents would be in favour of single yellow line parking restrictions. This would prevent parking from 8am to 6pm on weekdays, and the Local Joint Highways Committee have agreed to advertise these restrictions to apply to The Whitfields, Bittern Grove and Royal Meadows. This will give the opportunity for any objections to be raised prior to a final decision on the restrictions.

Time For A Strong County Region ‘Speaking For All Cheshire’s People’- Says County Personnel ChiefWhitehall’s green light to create Multi Area Agreements among authorities in Greater Manchester and Merseyside merely highlights the need for a strong County Region speaking for all the people of Cheshire. Macclesfield County Councillor David Freear, Executive Member for Personnel, voiced his fears for Cheshire following the Government announcement making way for country-wide city sub-regions. “We recognise the thinking behind the city regions but there is a danger that encouragement of economic growth centred on cities ignores the really outstanding performance and potential of Cheshire businesses, and the contribution of our rural and semi-rural communities“he said.
