New Style Ticket Machines On Bakerbus Are Amongst The First In The Country

BakerBus from Congleton is one of the first bus companies in England to install ticket machines which electronically read all the new English Concessionary Bus Passes.

This has been made possible by partnership working between BakerBus and Cheshire County Council.

All BakerBus vehicles have been equipped with ticket machines which check that the passes are valid and record details of the journeys being made.

Further Consultations Over Chester Zebra Crossing

A special radio advertisement will be aired on Monday involving children from Chester’s Overleigh St Mary’s Church of England Primary School urging pupils across Cheshire to walk to school.

The rap, to promote national Power Up Walk to School month, will be played during the school run on three commercial radio stations – Dee 106.3, Silk FM and Cheshire FM.

Key Services Under The Spotlight In County Council Report

Access to key services such as schools, shops, GP surgeries and hospitals are under the spotlight in a new County Council report.

A summary report has been published on a major consultation which took place this summer with Cheshire residents and it was included on the Environment Executive agenda today (Thursday).

It centres on three priority areas:

Access to key services from rural areas, particularly for older people; Access to health services, including Primary Care Trust modernisation plans; and Access to employment, particularly from areas of deprivation.

The report is split into the two boundaries of the two shadow councils Chester West and Chester and Cheshire East.

Phase Two Of Scheme To Upgrade Traffic Lights And Pedestrian Crossings In Macclesfield Town Centre

Work begins in Macclesfield on Monday October 27 on the second phase of a major scheme to upgrade traffic lights in and around the town centre.

Costing £470,000, the work is funded by Cheshire County Council and is expected to last five months with a break in works over the Christmas period between November 21st and January 12th.

Cheers! Sixth Formers Sample Free Bar Of Non-Alcoholic Drinks

Sixth formers and their teachers at seven Cheshire schools have the opportunity this month to sample free non-alcoholic drinks at the Cheers bar run by Cheshire County Council’s Road Safety Unit.

The bar will promote non-drinking and driving and is in line with the national ‘Think’ road safety campaign which will be promoted on television and radio throughout December.

Final Section Of Heritage Project For Chester City Centre

An improved pedestrian crossing and environmental enhancements are to be built at the Bridge Gate and entrance to Chester’s Old Dee Bridge near the Castle Drive turning.

As part of the £130,000 heritage public realm project the Old Dee Bridge will be closed for three weeks.

The contract has been brought forward to coincide with the remainder of National Grid works so that once both works are completed there will be no further disruption in the Old Dee Bridge area in the near future.

Calling All Young Drivers

Young motorists who have passed their driving test in the last year are being invited to take part in a free course to build their skills.

The Cheshire Safer Roads PartnershipCheshire Fire and Rescue Service and Local Road Safety Delivery Groups are funding a series of Pass Plus Xtra training courses which include a theory session specifically aimed at new drivers.

A Cheshire scheme which was first mooted before the Second World War has now received funding approval from the Department of Transport.

A powerful play about the importance of wearing a seatbelt is to tour Cheshire High Schools.

Tiny Giants Productions Limited will perform ‘Perfect’ as part of Cheshire County Council’s Road Safety Unit’s education programme. The play for 13 and 14 year olds will be followed by a workshop.

‘Perfect’ follows the story of 13 year old Anne, a car passenger, who miraculously survives after being thrown through the windscreen in a road traffic collision.

A Valued Contribution To The Compost

The benefits to the community and the environment from the use of bio-degradable ‘compost-ible’ plastic bags were emphasised at a meeting of Chester County Council.

County Councillor Eveleigh Moore Dutton surprised her council colleagues by distributing 40 of the new ‘hi-tech’ disposable bags around the council chamber. She urged councillors to collect their kitchen waste in them before adding them to the household compost.

Torrential Rain Floods Roads In Macclesfield

Cheshire County Council engineers and staff from its maintenance contractor Edmund Nuttall worked throughout the night during Thursday’s torrential rains in Macclesfield.

Three County Council engineers directed operations as calls came in across the area from five pm onwards until breakfast time.

On Friday morning a further 63 calls for help were received and clearing up took place until Friday afternoon.

Vote For A Big Lottery Windfall For Cheshire

Cheshire residents are being urged to support a £50m Big Lottery bid to fund major new routes for walkers and cyclists.

In December a televised public vote will decide which one of four shortlisted bids should receive the windfall in The People’s £50 Million Lottery Giveaway.

The bid – called Connect 2 – could bring £2.25m for community-based schemes to transform local travel in Northwich, Chester and Crewe and Nantwich.
