I was first elected as the County Councillor for Doddington at a By-election 2003 and was re-elected in 2005. I have also been the Crewe and Nantwich Borough Councillor for Shavington since 2001. I also served for five years as a Macclesfield Borough Councillor.
I was the Chairman of the Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council Performance and Overview Committee for the Environment and Local Economy from 2001 until 2005, Chairman of the South East Quadrant Working Group in 2004 and 2006 and Chairman of the Local Joint Highways Committee in 2003 and 2005. I am currently the Portfolio Holder for the Local Economy at Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council.
I have been an Officer in the Royal Air Force, worked in Marketing, primarily foods, and became Chairman of a substantial company manufacturing cheese. I retired in 1995 after managing a team of over 100 salespeople down to 10, without loss of the £750M turnover. I am widowed with three children and currently three grandchildren with one on the way. At both the Borough and County Council I believe I should:
- Stop the remorseless rise in office staff numbers and empire building.
- Concentrate on the delivery of mandatory core front line services and cut the current absurd waste of taxpayers’ money on non essentials or optional activities.
- Oppose strongly any extra and expensive tiers of government and quangos.
- Secure economies whilst protecting service delivery.
- Deliver a good service to all electors, without buck passing to the ‘other’ council
