I was first elected to Cheshire County Council in 2001. My interests are wide ranging and I hold a variety of positions on the Council. I am currently the Labour Spokesperson on the Rights of Way Committee, Deputy Spokesperson on the Community Services Scrutiny Select Committee and a Member of several other bodies, including the Property Board, Rural Select Panel. I also sit on the Cheshire Fire Authority Standards Committee. I am also a Member of the newly formed Ellesmere Port and Neston Locality Board.
I have been an elected Member of Ellesmere Port and Neston Borough Council for 34 years, where I have served on almost every Committee. I was Mayor of Ellesmere Port and Neston, first in 1989-1990 and then in 2004-2005.
I was born in Liverpool and trained at Campbell and Isherwood, a firm of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers. Following this I qualified as an Engineer Officer in the Merchant Navy. I served in the British Army with the 15/19 Hussars where I was posted to Malaya and spent two years on active service attached to the Ghurkas. I returned to the UK and worked for Vauxhall Motors and H. H. Robertsons for a total of 28 years. I now work for the NHS as a bank nurse and cover five hospitals.
I am married to Joan, a carer at a Residential Home, and have two sons and three grandsons.
