Proposals to increase the number of fire appliances operating in key areas of Cheshire are being put forward by the Service.
As part of its Integrated Risk Management Plan for 2007/08 (IRMP), the Service says it wants to increase the use of new midi fire appliances or Targeted Response Vehicles (TRVs) which are designed to respond to small, nuisance fires.
These fires account for approximately 40% of all incidents attended by the Service, with Ellesmere Port, Chester and Winsford among the ‘hot spots’.
Other key proposals in the Plan include:
- Moves to reduce unwanted fire signals as 98% of them are false alarms.
- Changing the current crewing systems at Birchwood and Wilmslow fire stations.
- Setting up a strategic reserve of staff and appliances
- Extra resources to reduce the number of road traffic collisions
- Campaigns to have sprinklers installed in high risk premises.
- Purchasing dual appliances which are more efficient and cost effective
