The service has teamed up with British Waterways to offer canal boat owners across the county’s waterways the chance for life saving smoke alarms to be fitted – free of charge. The Service is offering free boat fire safety assessments to all boats moored in the county in a move designed to reduce the number of on-board fires.
As well as writing to registered boat owners staff are also putting leaflets on notice boards at key locations across the waterways of Cheshire.
Deputy Chief Fire Officer Chris Turnock said: “Boat fires pose particular problems as they are usually moored in remote locations so time is of the essence when a fire breaks out. Our campaign highlights how to limit the risk of fires as well as providing advice on what to do if one does occur.”
