Northwich based PROjEN is now the toast of the county’s business community after carrying off the High Sheriff’s Award for Enterprise.
Six years ago the project management company was a loss-making concern.
But now its fortunes have changed.
Today its workforce has doubled and turnover and profit over the past four years has increased fivefold.
This stunning advance comes thanks to growing demand for its innovative and leading edge technology to advise some of the world’s leading aerospace, automotive, chemical, food and energy companies.
As winner of the initiative to herald small and medium sized enterprise, it receives a free place on Chester University’s MBA programme - worth £8,000 - plus £4,000 in cash.
Runners-up EA technology of Capenhurst received £5,000, with joint third prize of £3,000 each worth of business support from Business Link going to Multisol Ltd of Nantwich and SOG Ltd of Runcorn.
High Sheriff of Cheshire David Briggs launched the Business Award initiative when he took office last year.
More than 30 contenders in Cheshire, Warrington and Halton rose to his challenge to demonstrate top class achievement among local small and medium sized enterprises – with five companies shortlisted.
Now it boosts local networking opportunities for many of Cheshire’s leading businesses represented at the ceremony.
It also enjoys sponsorship from the County Council with Barclays Bank, Baker Tilley, Business Link Greater Manchester, Cheshire and Warrington Economic Alliance, Northwest Development Agency and Warrington Borough Council.
At a presentation evening staged at Chester University’s Binks Lecture Theatre, guest speaker John Varley, Group Chief Executive of Barclays Bank congratulated the winners and presented awards.
Championing Cheshire’s spirit of enterprise High Sheriff, says: “Cheshire is demonstrating its power as a real contender for enterprise .
“For this award clearly shows that throughout Cheshire, Warrington and Halton we have some magnificent gems of enterprise, upon which our wealth, prosperity and many jobs depend.
“I pay tribute to them, their staff and the often unrecognised work they do to keep us at the leading edge of business, not just locally - but nationally and internationally,” he added.

Shortlisted contenders
Applied Computing and Engineering Ltd from Warrington, pioneers in manufacturing simulation software and services with a roll call of clients from aerospace, automotive, defence, power, food and plastics industries.
EA Technology from Capenhurst, world leaders in pioneering technologies for power producers, distributors and users with solutions for power grid maintenance, location and detection of faults to developing new solutions to improve energy efficiency, have trebled turnover in five years and have ambitious domestic and international plans for expansion.
Multisol Ltd among the world’s leading distributors of high performance lubricants – with a special focus on new, safer, efficient and environmentally friendly products have developed a worldwide presence from their Nantwich base and have grown their turnover nine-fold over nine years.
SOG Ltd, Runcorn, took over ICI’s redundant facilities at The Heath and have developed a UK leadership in specialist laboratory, regeneration, office and conference facilities management operation. Their site now has more jobs than when it was with ICI and they have ambitious plans for expansion on and off site.
