Construction work at the new Household Waste Recycling Centre on the Woodford Park Industrial Estate in Winsford is well underway and the main elements of the site are very much in evidence.
The new retaining wall and the skip area are complete. The walkways, from which the public can deposit their waste into the 17 skips for garden waste; wood; timber; rubble; hardcore; cardboard and scrap metal have been assembled.
Recycled materials are being used to build the new centre wherever possible. Recycled plastics have been used in the drainage. Cheshire’s own soil improver, composted from garden waste is being used in the tree planting areas. Soils excavated from the site have been used to raise the householders’ area and construct a screening mound along Woodford Lane West.
Recycling banks will be provided for textiles, paper, glass, food and drink cans and plastic bottles, with additional facilities for used engine oil, batteries, fluorescent tubes and electrical goods.
The site will open in the autumn and the existing site at New Road will close.
