Neston residents are receiving a new ‘Resident’s Household Waste Pass’ as part of the first phase of a new initiative to end misuse of Cheshire’s Household Waste Recycling Centres by non-Cheshire residents.
A significant percentage of users of the Household Waste Recycling Centres located near the County’s border have been found to be non-Cheshire residents. These “cross-border tippers” are using the Centres at the expense of Cheshire tax payers.
Residents living within the catchment area for the Neston site will receive one free pass per household. The passes will provide right of entry to Neston Household Waste Recycling Centre and will need to be displayed in the vehicle windscreen from 1st October. Non-Cheshire residents will be refused access to the site.
The passes are for household waste only and do not allow Cheshire residents to dispose of trade waste at the Centres.
The Household Waste Permit scheme will still apply to owners of commercial vehicles and large trailers.
This initiative will help reduce both costs and queuing time and will improve performance.
If successful the initiative will be phased in at the other key Centres.
