Rolling registration was introduced in 2001. Previously people could only register to vote according to where they were living on a fixed annual qualifying date of 10 October. However, now individuals can register to vote at any time of the year, they simply have to fill a voter registration form, which can be obtained from the Electoral Registration Office.
There are two versions of the register - the full version and the edited version. Individual's details will appear on the full version, but they can choose whether or not the details appear on the edited register. The full register is used for elections, preventing and detecting crime, and checking applications for credit. The edited register is available for general sale and can be used for commercial activities such as marketing. Supply of the electoral register to libraries varies throughout the County. Check details with the appropriate local council or library.
The Electoral Register can be seen at District Council Offices, some Post Offices and Libraries |
