Checklist for Action - Teaching and Learning
- Do teaching materials and other resources take into account the needs and interests of different groups of learners?
- Do teaching materials and other resources provide opportunities to raise and discuss issues of equality and diversity?
- Do schemes of work demonstrate the use of a variety of teaching and learning strategies designed to reflect the preferred learning styles of individual learners enrolled on the course?
- Do teaching and learning strategies encourage learners to develop their learning styles and become more competent learners?
- Are course materials and handouts presented in a clear, accessible language and format?
- Is the use of jargon confined to those terms learners must learn for the course?
- Are resources and teaching and learning strategies adjusted to meet the needs of learners with sensory impairments?
- Are teaching and learning activities sufficiently differentiated to stretch the most able and allow the less able to learn and achieve?
- Are the needs of individual learners addressed eg demands of religious practices or holidays or the potential isolation of being the only male/female in the group?
- Have the course materials been audited to ensure that they reflect a diverse society and are free from bias or stereotypes?
- Are teaching and learning activities used to challenge stereotypes and counter stereotyped assumptions eg use of he/she?
- Do tutors draw on relevant local and national events that illustrate race, gender, disability or other equality issues and make use of them in their teaching?
- Do tutors challenge inappropriate language/behaviour?
