"New System" students (mainly started 2006 or later) If you have started a course and change to a different one, your entitlement to tuition fee loan and maintenance grant support for the new course will need to be reconsidered.
You will generally be entitled to fee loan/maintenance grant support for the duration of the new course, (plus an extra year if required), reduced by the number of years' support already received. Part year attendance is treated as a whole year. If your new course takes longer, you will not be eligible to fee / maintenance grant support for the extra years(s) and will need to self fund the initial shortfall.
"Old System" Students (mainly those who started before 2006) Will be entitled to tuition fee grant/loan and Higher Education grant support for the duration of their current course plus an extra year if needed. If you transfer to a course that the HEI does not consider to be similar to your current course, you may be charged the higher 'variable fee of up to £3,145 (2008 / 09) per year but will only be entitled to a maximum £1,255 means tested fee support (2008 / 09).
For all students: If your new course takes longer than your revised entitlement, you will not be eligible for tuition fee/grant loan or maintenance grant support for the extra year(s) and will need to self fund the initial shortfall.
Please contact us for advice and ensure that the HEI inform us in writing of any changes to your course title or duration.
