Dear Parents and Carers
Secondary schools in Cheshire are all organised along comprehensive lines catering for pupils of all levels of ability. Apart from Sandbach School (Boys) and Sandbach High School (Girls) all Cheshire secondary schools admit boys and girls. Some schools provide education for pupils from age 11 up to 18; in other areas the secondary schools serve the 11-16 age range, with sixth form education provided in nearby colleges.
All schools offer the National Curriculum. In addition, many schools have their own specialisms. Some schools have developed curriculum areas such as technology, languages, sciences, sport, mathematics, computing, business enterprise and the arts, and may have been awarded approved specialist status within the Government’s specialist school programme.
Applications for places for Year 7 Following changes in Government Legislation, applications for Year 7 places now have to be made through your local authority. Therefore, if you are resident in Cheshire, your application for a Year 7 school place must be made on Cheshire's application form. If you are resident in another authority and wish your child to attend a Cheshire school, you will need to apply on your home authority's application form and include the Cheshire school as one of your choices, unless you are resident outside England.
For example, if you are resident in Wales and wish to apply for a Cheshire school place, you must contact Cheshire County Council to request an application form. Alternatively, you may prefer to apply for school places online between the key dates relevant to your child's transfer to a secondary school.
Local authorities provide Admissions Information Booklets on the admission arrangements for secondary transfer to help answer any questions that you might have about applying for Year 7 school places. Alternatively, you can contact Cheshire's Admissions and Transfers Team by e-mail at admissions@cheshire.gov.uk or by telephoning 0845 1110304.
