Return to Teaching

Main heading

Sub-heading

return to teaching

A Programme of Training for qualified Primary Teachers wanting to return to the Primary Classroom.

The ‘Returning To Teaching’ Programme has been in operation for six years, supported by funding from the Training and Development Agency for Schools.

To be eligible you must hold QTS and have been out of teaching for at least a year.

The course is made up of a core programme, which includes Literacy, Mathematics, Science, ICT, Special Educational Needs, Teaching, Learning and Behavioural Management. This is extended by personal study, school-based experience totalling 20 days. A personal development portfolio allows course participants the opportunity to record their personal learning and achievement.

Participants attend a minimum of 20 taught sessions on a part-time basis between September 2008 and March 2009. Most are full day sessions, which are designed to fit in with trainees’ family and personal commitments. The flexibility of the training has contributed to its success and a significant number of teachers have gone on to find posts in Cheshire schools.
The programme was recently evaluated on behalf of the Training and Development Agency (TDA) who described this as “a very good programme with outstanding features”

What's in it for me?

The ‘Returning to Teaching’ Programme also allows participants to take advantage of Cheshire’s In-Service Training – further developing their expertise as teachers; meeting with educational professionals and practising teachers. Participants can obtain a post graduate qualification accredited by Edge Hill University and can lead on to a Masters Level qualification.

You will be eligible for a bursary and assistance with childcare costs is available.

Advice on the process of application to teaching posts is also provided, as is access to Cheshire’s Supply Service.

The taught sessions are mainly delivered at The Professional Centre, Woodford Lodge, Winsford.

If you would like to be added to our waiting list for a place on the September 2009 programme please contact Chris Dooley.
