Next Stage in the production of the MDF – Future Community Engagement Events - We want to hear your views!
‘Issues and Options’ Consultation – 2007
Since the Pre Issues and Options stage, and the events that took place in 2006 the information that has been gathered from the various community and minerals industry/stakeholder engagement has been used to produce the ‘Issues and Options’ documents in the form of The MDF Core Strategy and Site Specific Policies and Allocations Paper which will be out for public consultation in Autumn 2007 so we want to hear your views again. The public consultation will run until 23rd November 2007.
What should the vision for the future be?
The Council's minerals team has used your views to guide the development of the MDF within the various issues and options that are proposed in the Core Strategy Document.
The Core Strategy Document sets the scene and identifies the vision for mining and quarrying in Cheshire. The document looks at the key issues in quarrying, including how we should supply minerals in the future; transport; climate change; restoration of sites. The outcome of this document will set the policies which will determine how future planning applications for mines and quarries will be dealt with, how sites should be worked and how they should be restored.
Where should future quarrying take place?
The Site Specific Policies and Allocations document identifies possible locations across Cheshire that various landowners and minerals operators have presented to us for consideration. At this stage they are options for consultation; no decisions have been made in relation to where future quarrying may take place. In essence, these sites are the minerals industry’s aspirations and there is no certainty that these locations will form the basis of the new plan.
During the public consultation of the Issues and Options Reports we will therefore be seeking your views, and also views of other stakeholders, to establish the appropriateness of these options. Come and see us at the Community Road Shows during September and October 2007, the Core Strategy and Site Specific Policies and Allocations documents and tell us your views.
We will also be hosting industry and stakeholder workshops, and community focus groups. In addition, we are seeking views from the ‘Cheshire Voice’ citizen panel within the Council's Waste and Planning Questionnaire.
The outcome of this stage will help to inform the Preferred Options stage of the MDF process. To see where we are in the MDF process view this flow chart.

Pre ‘Issues and Options’ Community Engagement during 2006
During 2006 The Council’s Minerals Development Framework Team actively engaged with local mineral communities and stakeholders to gather evidence for the first stage of the production of the Cheshire Mineral Development Framework (MDF); the ‘Issues and Options’ stage.
A variety of events and activities took place to establish what the people of Cheshire consider the issues associated with the mining and quarrying industry are, which will contribute to the Issues and Options Report which will be available for public consultation in Autumn 2007. The variety of activities of community engagement has included the list below:
