Consultation on the Sustainability Appraisal of the Minerals Development Framework
Sustainability Appraisal is a statutory requirement of the Minerals Development Framework (MDF) preparation process. Its purpose is to ensure that the principles of sustainable development are fully integrated into the emerging policies and proposals.
The Council has now published a consultation draft Scoping Report (pdf). This brings together the results of initial stages of the Sustainability Appraisal work. It sets out a proposed ‘sustainability framework’ which will be used to appraise the policies and proposals of the MDF, as they emerge.
This draft document was available for comment for a consultation period of five weeks between 30th October 2006 – 4th December 2006. At present the results of the consultation are being collated to produce a Final Scoping Report and will be published in March 2007. Once the Sustainability Appraisal has been carried out, the final Strategic Environmental Assessment will also incorporate all these comments.
