Rapping Robot Teaches Pupils A ‘Rubbish’ Lesson
Cycler Robot is ‘programmed’ to visit primary schools in the county next month, promoting waste reduction in his own unique, high-tech, rapping way.
The Cycler Robot will be giving a 45-minute, interactive show, full of fun and facts about all things rubbish-related.
Dancing and rapping in class, Cycler will get the recycling message across, as children learn how to reuse waste and save valuable resources.
The show is part of a national environmental education programme run by Waste Watch.
Stuart Roberts, Environmental Co-ordinator for Cheshire County Council said: “This is a great, fun way to get children interested in waste recycling.
“As it’s held at feeder primaries to the local high schools, Cycler’s presentation will help set the scene for our ongoing recycling education programme in secondary schools”.
Cycler Robot is the creation of the national charity, Waste Watch. The ‘techno trash teacher’ displays will be backing up the current waste recycling education taking place in the county’s secondary schools, as part of the Schools Waste Action Cheshire (SWAC) scheme.
The recycling officers of the relevant Borough Councils are expected to be at the shows, as Cycler ‘gets down’ to the recycling rap.
An activity book of puzzles and follow-up exercises will also be provided, to make sure the message goes home with the children.
To help educate children on the concepts and benefits of waste reduction, Jenny Sterry, Education Officer for the Schools Waste Action in Cheshire (SWAC) is spending a term at Middlewich High School.
She will teach pupils about the 3Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle), and continue her work in Ellesmere Port Catholic High, St Thomas Moore Catholic High, Verdin High School and each of the feeder primary schools next year.
