Ashton Hayes Parish Councillors Sign Up To Support The Set The Pace Initiative

Ashton Hayes Parish Councillors are pushing the road safety message and individually signing up to Cheshire’s ‘Set the Pace’ anti-speeding campaign.

Set the Pace asks motorists and passengers to make a personal written commitment to drive at appropriate and legal speeds in a bid to tackle concerns about road safety in local communities.

Now the Ashton Hayes councillors hope that their support of the initiative will help address community concerns over road speeds and associated traffic crashes and collisions highlighted in their parish plan.

Ashton Hayes already uses a Speed Indicator Device on local roads on a regular basis as a way of tackling the issue.

Justine Hart, Senior Road Safety Officer, said: “Speeding traffic through the village was an issue raised by residents of Ashton Hayes during consultations for their Parish Plan.

“Set the Pace is a successful initiative and I would urge everyone in Ashton Hayes to make their commitment to the scheme.”

Chair of the Parish Council, Hugo Deynem, said: “Helping to make local roads safer is a parish council priority.

“This is the latest of our efforts and by setting an example we hope to raise awareness throughout the village.

My parish council colleagues and I are delighted to put our support behind the Cheshire campaign.”

It is a fact that speed surveys and enforcement campaigns undertaken in locations where a real or perceived speeding problem has been identified often reveal local drivers to be responsible.

Individuals, organisations or community groups can make a commitment to “Set the Pace” or run a local campaign by contacting Justine Hart, Senior Road Safety Officer on 01244 603131.

They can also email engroadsafetyinformation@cheshire.gov.uk or alternatively visit our road safety web pages and sign up online.
