Primary School Wants To Raise Cash For Chester Jets Basketball Team

A Chester primary school is hoping to raise cash for the Chester Jets Basketball team by getting into the Guinness Book of Records.

Hoole Church of England Primary and Nursery School believe that raising the profile of the Jets, who are fighting for survival, may help sponsors come forward.

“It would be heartbreaking if Chester Jets folded” said Headteacher Judith Sharman.

“As a long time fan I’ve known many of the players for many years and as a headteacher I’ve worked with them for more than ten years.

chester jets star james hamilton with levi williams, louise wilson and phoebe orsmond from hoole church of england primary and nursery school with some of the letters the pupils are writing to the guinness book of records, asking for their help in setting a record.

“The players have been coming into school to teach the children some of their skills and their enthusiasm for the sport and most importantly their essential sportsman qualities have stood out. They have been a vital part of our PE curriculum and Healthy Schools initiative.

“I do not think that everyone is aware of the tremendous hard work that the Jets undertake, visiting a long line of schools as well as ours and how there would be a huge void if they were not there.

“I am hoping that our special fund raising challenge will not only raise some cash but will also raise the profile of the Jets to potential sponsors.

“Our Guinness Book of Records challenge has yet to be decided but we are hoping that it may involve a record for the number of pupils bouncing balls in the school playground for up to an hour. Maybe other schools could aim to break it and raise still more money!”

It is hoped that the Chester Jets could also take part in the Guinness Book of Records fundraiser.

School Governor and Hoole and Newton County Councillor Molly Hale said: “I would like to wish the children all the very best in their Guinness Book of Records venture.

“I know how much the children look forward to the visits from Chester Jets and long may they continue.”
