Launch Of Cheshire’s Junior Road Safety Officer Scheme
Cheshire’s Junior Road Safety Officers scheme for this school year has been launched.
Each primary and junior school is invited to nominate one or two Year 6 pupils to serve as Junior Road Safety Officers (JRSO) and for the first time they have been asked to choose an adult supervisor known as the ‘JRSO buddy’ who can be a teacher, teacher’s assistant or a parent.
This year there will be 510 JRSOs nominated from more than 250 schools in Cheshire. The scheme is organised and run by the County Council’s Road Safety Unit.
The County Council’s Director of Environment Tom McCabe has also been made an honorary JRSO.
“The role of the Junior Road Safety Officer is extremely important” said Mr McCabe.
“Each one highlights the road safety message and pinpoints dangers which must be avoided.
“I know that each child takes the role extremely seriously and I look forward to hearing of their successes over the coming months.”
The launch took place at Brookside Primary School, Ellesmere Port because the school is the current holder of the JRSO award 2006/7. Lead member for Children’s Services David Rowlands presented the school’s two new JRSOs Warren Evans and Kelsey Bristow with their certificates and badges of office.
Said County Councillor Rowlands: “Each Junior Road Safety Officer will receive an information pack from the Road Safety Unit which outlines their duties and activities for the year ahead.
“The guide, a certificate and badge of office will be presented to them by their JRSO ‘buddy’. |
