NUT Strike Action To Close Ten Percent of Cheshire’s Schools
Thirty-four Cheshire schools are expected to close on Thursday (April 24) due to strike action by members of the National Union of Teachers.
A further 64 schools will only open partially – some reduced to just a few classes functioning normally.
Over 1000 members of the NUT – Cheshire’s largest teaching union – will be taking industrial action over pay, which is expected to affect around 30,000 pupils.
Cheshire’s Director of Children’s Services, Joan Feenan, last week urged schools to give ample notice of action to parents of children affected by the strike.
Cheshire has 43 Secondary, 265 Primary and 14 Special Schools.
The closure figures are the latest available but could be subject to marginal change.
