Calling All Young Drivers
Young motorists who have passed their driving test in the last year are being invited to take part in a free course to build their skills.
The Cheshire Safer Roads Partnership, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service and Local Road Safety Delivery Groups are funding a series of Pass Plus Xtra training courses which include a theory session specifically aimed at new drivers.
The courses, which are held at locations throughout Cheshire, are arranged by Cheshire County Council’s Road Safety Unit.
Everyone taking part is entitled to a discount on their car insurance if they complete the course within 12 months of passing their driving test.
Highways and Transportation Executive Member Eveleigh Moore Dutton said: “Statistics show that new drivers are more likely to have a crash in the first two years of passing their test than at any other time.
“Pass Plus Xtra aims to build on existing skills, knowledge and experience to help reduce the risk of being involved in a crash.”
The course comprises a theory session and on-road training modules covering driving in towns, driving in all weathers, driving at night and driving on rural roads, dual carriageways and motorways.
Participants must be aged between 17 and 25, have passed their driving test in the last 12 months and live within the Cheshire area. Places are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
