Formal Consultation To Take Place Over Proposals To Build New Tarporley School
Formal consultation is to take place on a proposal to move Tarporley Church of England Primary School to a new site in the grounds of Tarporley High School and 6th Form College.
Lead Member for Children’s Services David Rowlands authorised the recommendation today (Wednesday).
“We believe the time has now come to gather local opinions on this proposal which provides an exciting opportunity for a new primary school” said County Councillor Rowlands.
“The primary school’s new building could be on the High School site and any loss of playing field for the High school could be resolved by converting part of the former Brook Farm school site into a playing field for Tarporley High.
“A great deal of feasibility work needs to be carried out, especially the shared vehicular access from Nantwich Road for the two schools.
“At present we want to gauge public reaction to the proposals and a special consultation event which includes an exhibition will be set up in October to study the plans and to launch the process of gathering the views of parents and the Tarporley community.”
The County Council-owned playing field and the site of Tarporley Church of England Primary School as well as the remainder of the Brook Farm site could be sold for new housing.
And the money raised would go towards the cost of the new primary school.
Headteacher Sara Lee from Tarporley High School and 6th Form College attended the meeting and in a written question wrote: ‘Of the options considered to provide suitable and sufficient accommodation for Tarporley CE Primary School, the relocation of the Primary School to our large High School site is the one that clearly offers the greatest advantage to both school communities, to the children and young people of Tarporley and the surrounding area and to their parents.
‘There is a firm existing partnership between the two schools. The two Headteachers and the two Governing Bodies have affirmed our shared vision for the relocation, and we are eager to work together to make this wonderful opportunity for children and young people a reality.
‘At the same time, the distinctive character of the two separate schools will be sustained, as well as sufficient physical separation.’
