Cheshire Showcase Of Primary School Musical Talent
Over six nights in early July a total of 32 primary schools from across Cheshire are taking part in concerts to celebrate their involvement in a new teaching programme.
The events are the culmination of a year’s teaching as part of the Government’s Wider Opportunities Scheme where the music curriculum is taught through the medium of instrumental music.
The whole class of Year Five children learnt their music together as part of a band, orchestra or choir for one hour a week.
The programme has featured collaboration between tutors and classroom teachers.
If it is a wind band they have been taught by a woodwind tutor, a brass tutor and the class teacher. If it is a string orchestra there has been a violin tutor, a cello tutor and the teacher sharing the teaching.
The initiative is being led by Cheshire Music Education Partnership which is Cheshire County Council’s Music Education Team.
Cheshire’s Children’s Services Executive Member David Rowlands said: "The concerts will show what children have learnt over the past year and will be extremely enjoyable.
"This scheme has been so popular that more schools will be taking part next year."
Added Rob Nash, Manager of the Cheshire Music Education Partnership: "This has given every child an opportunity to experience the excitement of learning to play an instrument alongside their classmates.
"A great deal of hard work has taken place and pupils have enjoyed learning how to play instruments. In fact in some cases teachers have been learning an instrument along with the children."
Concerts taking place on July 1, 2 and 3 are part of the national Department for Children, Schools and Families ‘Shine’ celebrations showcasing the talents of young people.
