NVQ Awards Ceremony Celebrates Learning Zone Success

Celebrations have taken place to mark the first anniversary of Cheshire County Council’s Learning Zone in Chester and to award NVQs to Community Services staff.

Based in Curzon House Community Support Centre in Saltney, the Learning Zone, complete with computer suite, has been set up to provide resources for all County Council staff so that they can access information and learning support in a way that suits them.

Recipients of awards included Jane Morris who recently was presented with a North West regional honour in the NHS Skills for Life, Health and Social Care category.

This week Jane, who is an Acting Senior Community Support Worker in Cheshire West, was also presented with an award for passing Literacy Skills level two.

Two work colleagues - Daphne Morrison and Elizabeth Grant who are both Community Support Workers in Curzon House – received awards for being highly commended in the North West Skills for Life category. Daphne also awarded her NVQ level two.

Lynne Hardwick, Executive member for Adult Social Services said: “I would like to congratulate Jane, Daphne and Elizabeth and every one who received an award.

“They all are excellent role models and proof that the Learning Zone and the Skills for Life format enable staff to progress further in their careers

“I hope many more people take advantage of the Learning Zone and wish it all the success for the future.”

“As far as I am aware Jane is the first member of staff to be awarded the top NHS honour.”
