Amalgamation Of Two Winsford Schools Gets The Go Ahead
Cheshire’s Executive has agreed to amalgamate Leaf Lane Infant and Nursery School and Wharton Church of England Junior School in Winsford.
The decision will create a 420 place voluntary controlled primary school on the junior site with an admission number of 60.
The school will initially be located in the two buildings until pupils can be brought onto one site.
Children’s Services Executive Member David Rowlands said: “The amalgamation arose out of the Transforming Learning Communities Review and is consistent with the County Council’s support for all-through primary schools.
“The proposal for the new school has been put forward by the Chester Diocesan Board of Education supported by the County Council and is welcomed by the two school communities.
”It will deliver educational benefits for the children as well as advantages for the management of the school.”
The new two form entry school will come into being in January 2009.
Local Winsford North and East County Councillor Tony Hooton said: “I welcome the report and the amalgamation has got to the stage where people want to get on with this.
“We have appointed a new headteacher and the governors are all appointed and we are in discussion with officers about the final design of the school.”
