Work To Take Place On A54 Holme Street, Tarvin Near Chester

Work begins on Monday (January 12) on a scheme to reconstruct and strengthen A54 Holme Street, Tarvin near Chester and should be completed by the end of March.

The nearly £600,000 project, funded by Cheshire County Council, will also involve recycling road material which will be removed from site, crushed, graded and then re-used in the lower layers of the new road construction. It will have the same strength as traditional materials. The top layer will be a conventional material using quarried stone.

Dowhigh Limited has been awarded the contract for the whole works.

“Recycling some of the old road construction material makes good environmental sense” said local Gowy County Councillor Eleanor Johnson.

“It not only reduces the amount of energy needed in making the road material but also conserves natural resources and reduces the vehicle emissions of delivery vehicles.”

Continued County Councillor Johnson: “The County Council apologies for any traffic delays, but it is extremely important that this essential road maintenance project is carried out.

“The work will be undertaken in sections, using temporary traffic signals which will be manually controlled during the day to keep any such delays as short as possible.”

Vehicular access to homes along Holme Street, Kelsall Road, Townfield Lane and Pool Lane will only be affected as the works pass them.

Residents of all such affected homes will be contacted by the contractor at least a day before when any access is affected.

It will be necessary to close each end of Tarvin High Street for short durations to carry out junction work with the A54. Only one end will be closed at any one time and information signs will be placed on the road before each closure to give advance warning. Local diversion signs will be in place for the duration of these closures.
