West Cheshire/North East Wales Sub-Regional Spatial Strategy
Cheshire County Council has been working in partnership with the North West Regional Assembly, the Welsh Assembly Government, Chester City Council, Ellesmere Port and Neston Borough Council, Wrexham County Borough Council, Flintshire County Council, Denbighshire County Council and the Merseyside Policy Unit to produce the West Cheshire and North East Wales Sub Regional Strategy.
This provides a non statutory framework for greater cross border co-operation and development between West Cheshire and North East Wales over the next 15 years. The core area of the sub region encompasses Chester, Ellesmere Port and Neston, Flintshire and Wrexham. The wider reference area includes Denbighshire and the Frodsham-Helsby sub areas of Vale Royal, Warrington and Halton.
The Sub-Regional Spatial Strategy has been used to inform the preparation of the Regional Spatial Strategy for the North West and will be a key consideration for Local Authorities in their plan making, as well as influencing other economic, planning, health and housing strategies. It will also be used to inform future reviews of the Wales Spatial Plan.
The strategy has evolved from the West Cheshire North East Wales Sub-Regional Study, published in October 2004. A draft of the Sub Regional Strategy was produced in 2005 and was subject to public consultation. The final strategy is accompanied by a Strategic Environmental Assessment and Appropriate Assessment which have been used to appraise and inform its development and preparation. The final version of the strategy has also taken into account the outcome of the public consultation on the draft strategy.
