An independent sustainability appraisal of the Adopted Structure Plan 2011 was undertaken in the autumn of 2002, during the preparation of the Issues and Options consultation document as part of the Structure Plan Review. The appraisal used 27 criteria based on the North West’s Integrated Appraisal Toolkit and was led by individuals involved in the production of the Toolkit from the North West Regional Assembly and Government Office North West. The findings of the appraisal show that the majority of the current Structure Plan polices are still robust and relevant, however some key recommendations on how the plan could be improved to be more sustainable were made. A full version of the Sustainability Appraisal of the Adopted Structure Plan 2011 was published in March 2003 and can be downloaded below.
The recommendations from the first sustainability appraisal were considered during the formulation of the Draft Deposit Structure Plan and the majority of these were taken on board. In December 2003 a further sustainability appraisal was carried out on the changes made to the policies for the Draft Deposit and minor changes have been made to the wording of policies to enhance the clarity and readability of the plan. A full version of the Sustainability Appraisal of the Draft Deposit Structure Plan Alteration can be viewed below.
