What We Do

  • Provide advice on noise and air quality to the county planners in respect of the planning applications that are determined by the County.
  • Monitor compliance with noise conditions in planning permissions for waste disposal and mineral extraction sites.
  • Determine / verify the environmental impact from strategic planning applications that have a potential impact within the County.
  • Monitor noise and vibration caused by road traffic and determine impact of traffic calming measures.
  • Monitor air pollution levels at 3 locations within the County using real time measurement equipment and at 5 other sites using nitrogen dioxide diffusion tubes.
  • Model air pollution levels throughout the County using a computer model that utilises an up to date emissions database and is verified using the monitoring data.
  • Measure dust levels at various locations, usually related to mineral extraction or waste disposal sites.
  • Monitor compliance with the obligations in the legal agreement between the County Council and Manchester International Airport.
