Cheshire County Council – As Waste Planning Authority

  • Prepares the Cheshire Waste Local Plan
  • Determines planning applications for waste management development
  • Monitors and enforces planning controls

Environment Agency

  • Regulates the management of waste from production to disposal through licensing and other regulatory controls
  • Collects and publishes waste data
  • Provides advice on planning applications as a statutory consultee

Cheshire County Council – As Waste Disposal Authority

  • Prepares a joint municipal waste strategy in conjunction with the Waste Collection Authorities
  • Lets contracts for the management of municipal waste collected by District Councils in their role as Waste Collection Authorities
  • Provides facilities for the management and recycling of bulky household waste
  • Manages closed landfill sites previously operated by the Council

Cheshire’s Waste Collection Authorities

  • Collect household waste from households, and some commercial premises, and transport it to waste management facilities;
  • Prepare recycling plans;
  • Provide recycling facilities.
