Railways for the Future

The Transport and Regeneration Service is involved with a number of projects to improve interchange facilities at stations within Cheshire.

The Council has lead two feasibility studies that have been carried out at two of Cheshire's most important railway stations, Chester and Crewe. The studies came up with a number of options to improve passenger facilities inside the stations and to upgrade interchange facilities outside. Preferred options for improving both stations were chosen following public consultation exercises.

At Chester station work has already started on improving the forecourt and station concourse.  Work on the forecourt should be completed before Christmas 2007 with work on the concourse continuing until May 2008.

For more detailed information about improvements at Chester and Crewe rail stations and interchanges please use the links below:

The Council is also working with Merseyside Passenger Transport Executive to fund improvements to Hooton Station. The improvements will remove all barriers to access at Hooton Station and include passenger lifts on all three platforms and also interchange facilities outside the station.
