Why join a Reading Group?

Do you enjoy reading, talking, and meeting people? Then why not join a reading group? Reading groups provide fantastic opportunities for people to come together who enjoy books and reading, to share their thoughts about their reading experiences in a relaxed, informal manner, and to use book-based discussions to get to know other people. Reading groups also introduce you to books that you wouldn’t necessarily have chosen for your yourself. Do you dare to try something different?

And it doesn’t stop with the book… Many reading groups like to read the book, then go on to see the film adaptation or theatre production, and some like to arrange food and drink relating to the theme of the book. What better excuse is there to indulge your chocolate passions than to meet to discuss Chocolat by Joanne Harris?

Sociable, friendly and fun, so why don’t you join one?

Want to set up a Reading Group?

If there isn’t a group near you, then why not set one up yourself? There’s lots of help and advice available to anyone interested in setting up their own reading group. For example, how do I to get discussions started? Or, how do I deal with group dynamics? Check out the Websites for Readers and look at those listed under the Reading Groups heading.

Virtual Reading Groups

Alternatively, if you can’t get to a reading group and don’t want to set one up, why not try joining a virtual reading group? These are particularly good if you enjoy a certain type of read, like science fiction or crime, as many are genre specific. Again, explore the links under Reading Groups in the Websites for Readers listing.
