The Kitty Stone (Sandstone Trail, Bickerton)
Long ago... Spring morning, dappled yellow, Pale sunshine winking through sapling birch trees. Our children weave through them, Shouts echoing, "First to reach the Kitty Stone!" A landmark, the high point on the ridge One man's memorial to his wife. Impatiently they wait, ignoring the youthful landscape Stretched before them As life was then.
Yesterday… Winter morning, crisp earth hoar-covered, With laboured breath we two meander through silver birch trees Pointing skywards like slender fingers. We reach the Kitty stone A landmark, the high point on the ridge One man's memorial to his wife. We drink in the beauty of the frozen landscape And reflect; the Kitty stone, a landmark Our life mark.
