Big Blacon Poem
by the residents of Blacon with Ian McMillan Monday 25th September 2006
Blacon Blacon what a place Blacon Blacon what a place
Used to be called Blakon Hill More than that they're on the pill And it's more than just a chill It's a complete and utter thrill.
Blacon Blacon what a place Blacon Blacon what a place
It all belonged to the Earl of Crewe When the railway came in 42 the train went to New Brighton where there was a lot of fightin and it went at the speed of lightning and it all got quite exciting And it went to Wrexham too Boo!
It finished at the Northgate Station Now let's go back to Blacon...
Blacon Blacon what a place Blacon Blacon what a place
They built it in the fifties it was looking rather nifty and people were rather thrifty cos they didn't have no money.
And then came the sixties the place was full of squaddies and a lot of bobbies and we all had a jobby!
Then it was the seventies it was looking rather heavenly developing rather cleverly and there was a lot of revelry
And then came the eighties Ken Barlow opened Kwikies and later in the 80s Red Run opened Mannys.
And then came the nineties the place was full of yuppies and they all had little puppies and little kids with nappies
And now is 2006 And there's a lot of mix And there's an eco garden and a part time police station and there is the Venny and there's a giant bunny and here's Ken Barlow on Red Rum he likes it so much he's glad he's come.
