Michael Fairclough, Year 11

Joey the Swan

(Joey the Swan is a twisting part of a road in Crewe, near a stream)

Jumping,
Over
Eddies,
Yet

Tired,
Hot,
Exhausted.

Sitting,
Watching,
And
Numb.

Sebastian Brady, Year 8

Crewe

Early morning,
Crewe is quiet.
But then a loud whistle
Echoed through the air.
“Ah”, said the wife,
“That’ll be the train to London”.

“Boys”, cried the woman,
“It’s time for school”.
In the distance, the frequent sound
Of trains passing,
Clacking and clicking over the track.

That’s what Crewe was like.
Now, a job centre for the Polish
And all the litter ruining your street.
Historic buildings wrecked by graffiti.
Just one piece of Crewe’s history remains:
The Works.

Hannah Whitworth, Year 7

Gainsborough Road

I live in Gainsborough Road with long, sweeping
Victorian houses down an enchanted street.
Town centre is fifteen minutes away; the most
Delicious hot chocolate at Bellini’s.
I love Crewe: even Lydia is only twenty minutes from me.
The tallest trees in the orchard next to the Woodside Pub
With a Quiz night every Tuesday.

Amy Preston, Year 7

Willaston Home

The sun is gazing at the ground.
Swings in the park going up and down.
I love sounds of the birds tweeting in the air,
And all the people speaking in their houses.
But really, in Willaston, there’s not a sound.

Lydia Oakley, Year 7

Hough

I love Hough, It’s nice, it’s paradise.
It’s my home. I never moan,
I would never move from my home.
Hough is my home, sweet home.

Sarah Meadows, Year 11

Journey to School

Up past the Fox, Acorns and
the Oak,
Down the Whirlpool,
Past the Mary Berk,
Up the Rope,
Roll down the Bank,
Over the rail,
Along the Rope Bridge,
Through the fiery gates
Into Hell.

Paige Jackson, Year 7

Place Names

Queen Street : why do they say?
Is the Queen coming down on this glorious day?
Stapeley : is it the home of staples?
Why is there the name Pebble Brook?
When there’s no pebbles in sight!
Electricity Street : is the air filled with static?
Robinson’s Corner : is it the place where Robinson’s Juice is made?
Manor House : could it be the place where manners live?

Megan Sloan, Year 9

Barker Street

Woof! Cats stay away from
Barker Street! Woof!
Their bark is worse than their
Bite. Woof!

Tyler Hastings, Year 8

From Wizzy Green

Wistaston Green, Wistaston Green.
I’ve never seen a place so clean.
It’s very nice,
Shops at such a low price,
But the school is really mean!

Jenni Grist, 8RJ

Shavington Poem

Little village of Shavington,
That is where I live upon,
It’s grand, green fields,
Are like Armoury and Shields,
Smothering the land around it.

Its straight road
Is full of toads
Who see a huge car coming,
So their lives go flashing,
And they’re gone by the end of the day.

Shavington is a peaceful village,
Twist a few roads and you’ll see a bridge,
It is in the middle of many streets,
Up to the park, there are picnic seats,
So there’s plenty to offer right here.

Twisting, turning, around the heart
Of the village, that’s the main part.
It is, of course, the Post Office,
And nearby, there’s a family named Grist,
That’s me, you know – Jenni Grist.
