Cheshire Poet Laureate
Who Cares?
You say that voting doesn’t make a difference
When a difference is exactly what it makes,
You say they’re all the same
Can’t be trusted, just a name
But they’re up there to be counted for our sakes.
You say it’s hard to go into the poll booth
Because you’ve never been in there before,
You sit with your objections
Scared to join in the elections
Yet your answers could be just inside that door.
You just can’t take the ballot box for granted
It is fragile, you should handle it with care,
It’s your children’s education
It’s the future of your nation
It’s a key, a gift, a treasure – and it’s there.
If you want to have a say in how we’re living
Today it’s two for one, so get your coat,
Go and exercise your choice
Or apathy will steal your voice
Get your pencil out and get down there and vote.
