A few questions answered...
Is there any restriction on what I can get copied?
Most documents can be copied with no difficulty. But some cannot, because they are
- too large, particularly maps or plans bigger than A3; or
- an awkward shape, for example a tightly bound book, or a parchment deed made up of several membranes; or
- too fragile
Under copyright law:
- we cannot provide more than one copy of any item.
- we cannot copy an entire volume.
If we cannot copy the document you request, we will let you know as soon as possible.
What sort of copy can I have?
This service supplies paper copies, sent to you by post.
Can I get photographs or have a microfilm made?
If you want a photograph or a microfilm made, please email the Record Office for an estimate.
Can I be sure of getting a clear and legible copy?
Inevitably, the quality of copies varies according to age and condition of the documents. We will make every effort to obtain the best copy possible.
How do I pay?
To reduce our administrative costs and to speed up our service, we do require payment before sending out copies. We cannot make an exact estimate before carrying out your order, as this means extra wear and tear on original documents, so please:
- make out a sterling cheque, payable to Cheshire County Council (not Record Office)
- make the cheque out for 'Not more than [£____]' (see below)
