How to place an order

Main heading

Sub-heading

** You can order any number of services from our on-line shop, just keep adding to your basket **

If you are not sure how to place your order, please contact us by e-mail at recordoffice@cheshire.gov.uk, we are always happy to help.

Please note that we cannot provide refunds where incorrect information is given.

Copies from Parish registers

Please use this service if you would like copies of baptisms, marriages or burials from Cheshire parish registers. We can provide copies provided we hold the parish registers.

We need to know the parish where the event took place, the name or names of the people involved and the exact date of the event. It is sometimes possible to provide a copy without an exact date but please e-mail the record office at recordoffice@cheshire.gov.uk for further assistance.

If you want certificates of birth, marriage and death for Cheshire, please see the web-site www.cheshirebmd.org.uk for information on how to order. If you have found references on cheshirebmd we will not be able to provide you with copies unless we hold a copy of the marriage registers here.

All copies will be provided as black and white on A4 or A3 paper.

The minimum charge will always be £1.00 plus postage

Copies from Census Returns

Please use this service if you would like copies from census returns for Cheshire.

We need to know the piece number and folio to be able to provide you with a copy. If you do not know either of these, please contact the record office on recordoffice@cheshire.gov.uk

All copies will be provided as black and white on A4 or A3 paper.

The minimum charge will always be £1.00 plus postage

Copies from Newspapers

Please use this service if you have details of what you would like copying from a specific newspaper.

We need to know the name of the newspaper, the date of the newspaper and what section you need copying. If you do not know if the newspaper contains what you need, please use our research service.

All copies will be provided as black and white on A4 or A3 paper.

Do not assume that a newspaper will contain an obituary or an inquest report.
This will not always be the case.

The minimum charge will always be £2.50 plus postage

Copies from all other original documents

This service is for copies of anything other than parish registers, census returns and newspapers.

If you have found a reference on the web-site Access to Archives (www.a2a.org.uk) please make sure you are ordering a copy of a single document rather than an entire collection. It will probably look like something like this:

FILE - LETTER - ref. DLI/5/1/9 - date: 1760, 17. Feb

You can also find document references on our on-line catalogue - please make sure you are ordering a single document which will usually be an item.

We have a minimum charge of £2.50 which includes the cost of copying and staff time involved in locating and retrieving the documents. We will ask you to specify a maximum amount to be spent on the copying and you will be charged £2.50. If the total cost of your copying comes to more than £2.50 we will notify you of the additional amount and request payment. We will not exceed the maximum amount you have specified you wish to spend.
You will not receive your order until we have received full payment.

If you have any difficulty in locating a document reference please contact us by e-mail at recordoffice@cheshire.gov.uk

We will ask you how you would like to receive your copies and the basic option is for black and white copies on A4 or A3 paper. This is the cheapest option at 40 pence a page.

The minimum charge will always be £2.50

If you would like digital images of the documents this will cost £2 per image (one document may require any number of images) and you can receive these images by e-mail, on CD ROM or as colour print-outs on photographic quality paper. For this option there is a handling fee of £1.50.

The minimum charge will always be £2.50 plus postage

In most cases it is possible to take photographs free of charge using a digital camera in the Cheshire Record Office searchroom. Please consult staff on the day for permission.

With this service only there is a choice about how you receive your copies. We can only offer A4 or A3 black and white copies from Parish Registers, Census Returns and Newspapers.

Please contact us at recordoffice@cheshire.gov.uk for any queries relating to on-line ordering
