Aims
-
To offer a service which will assist teachers to fulfil the requirements of the National Curriculum.
-
To raise awareness primarily among teachers, but also among pupils and students of the resources at the record office.
-
To provide guidance on the procedures of the Cheshire Record Office and on the processes which will help teachers, pupils and students to find the information they want.
Services Provided (Note : We require 4 weeks notice of any proposed visit.)
-
Introductory "Twilight" Sessions - After school sessions for teachers (up to 1 1/2 hours) on "Using the Cheshire Record Office". General introduction including visit to storage areas and public searchroom with some examples of types of documents which can be of use in schools. Fee : £10.00 per teacher
-
Inset Days for Teachers - To concentrate on specific core study units, 16-19 personal study, etc., having selected a range of relevant documents in advance of the visit. We can accommodate up to 15 teachers per half day. In general one study unit per half day will be covered, but two units can be taken if a whole day inset is required. Fee : £25.00 per teacher per 1/2 day
-
Introductory Talks to Pupils / Students During Normal Opening Hours - We will accommodate up to a maximum of 12 introductory talks per year.
- These groups will take place in the lecture room.
- An introductory talk about the work of the Record Office and how to use it can be given to a full class (up to a maximum of 25).
- We can supply a standard selection of documents - parish register, wills, OS maps, census, etc. for the relevant area. If other documents are required, the teacher / tutor should select them in advance. We cannot get out additional documents during the visit.
- The teacher / tutor is responsible for the supervision of pupils / students during visits and must remain in attendance.
- Visits will normally last 1 -2 hours.
Fee : £30.00 per class.
Township Packs - Groups of six primary school pupils (Year 5 and / or Year 6) plus their teacher are welcome to come to the Record Office by arrangement to compile a Township Pack for their own or another township. Since it is necessary to start by 9.45am., in order to finish around 3pm., this is probably only possible for schools within fairly easy reach of Chester. However, "twinning" arrangements between schools in different parts of the county may mean that one school can compile a pack on behalf of another.
The Council's Education Library Service is there to provide learning materials to schools and advise on their most effective use in order to support the needs of teachers and help them deliver the curriculum effectively to all pupils. |
