Looking After Our Collections

Cheshire Museums Service holds a variety of collections on behalf of the people of Cheshire.   Objects are only acquired if they come within the terms of the Service’s collecting policy.  Acquisition is by donation or purchase; loan arrangements are only made occasionally, usually for short periods.  The collecting policy is reviewed every 5 years to ensure collections remain relevant.

Our collections fall into two main sections: the Salt Museum covers the salt industry in the UK and further afield, along with the social history of the mid-Cheshire area.  The Museums Service manages the archive of archaeological material from the County (excluding Chester).
