Services & Support

Our role is to support the work of other museums and heritage organisations in the sub-region.  Resources and staffing are limited, so for most projects we have to seek external funding.  Some recent projects and other support are outlined below.

Curatorial Advice

A requirement of Accreditation is that small museums which do not have qualified or experienced staff should appoint a curatorial advisor to ensure that they have access to professional advice.  We currently act in that capacity for the Museum of Primitive Methodism, Congleton Museum and Cheshire Military Museum.  We also provide help and advice whenever possible to other museums and liaise regularly with the Museum Development Officer at MLA North West.

Grant-aid

Revenue grants are provided to Macclesfield, Nantwich and Congleton Museums, Cheshire Military Museum and the National Waterways Museum, Ellesmere Port.  Project grants are no longer available.

Cheshire Museums Forum

The Forum, which has been in existence since the 1970’s, provides the opportunity for museums in the sub-region to network, discuss matters of mutual interest and carry out joint projects.  Membership is open to all museums who are Accredited or working towards Accreditation.  Joint projects have included marketing surveys, a training needs analysis, management development programme, and, most recently, collection care training.
