Department Stores   ::   Supermarkets   ::   Markets

There is a rich mixture of shops in Cheshire from independent traders to chain stores, department stores and retail parks.

Village shopping is maintained in many of Cheshire's communities, where possible selling local produce. The post office and independent shops are an important part of village life.

The towns have the mixture of independent shops and familiar high street names.


Department stores

Department stores are found in the larger towns.

BHS have outlets in Chester and Crewe.

Boots have outlets in Chester, Crewe, Winsford, Macclesfield, Northwich.

Browns of Chester is a Debenhams department store.

Marks and Spencer have a large and expanding store in Chester, a large store in Macclesfield and comparatively smaller stores in Crewe and Northwich.

For those shoppers who like designer names at lower prices, Cheshire Oaks is a designer outlet complex.


Supermarkets

Asda has stores in Crewe, Ellesmere Port and Winsford.

Booths have a large store in Knutsford.

Morrisons has a large store in Chester, on the edge of Winsford and at Sandbach, Congleton, Crewe and Ellesmere Port.

Sainsbury's have stores on the outskirts of Chester, Ellesmere Port, Nantwich, and Macclesfield, whilst in Wilmslow and Northwich the stores are closer to the centre of town.

Tesco have stores in Chester, Northwich, and Macclesfield.

There are Aldi Stores in Chester, Crewe, Congleton, Winsford and Northwich.

Kwik Save have 29 stores, spread throughout Cheshire.


Markets

Traditional markets are held in several towns around the County, many are still outdoors, whilst some are held in Market halls.

Chester's market is held everyday from Monday to Saturday, though some stalls close for half a day on Wednesday.

In Congleton the market is held on Tuesday and Saturday with a 'flea market' in the Bridestones Centre on Fridays. In Alsager the market is held on Fairview Car Park on Wednesdays. In Middlewich the Southway car park is used on Tuesdays. On Thursdays the Common and the Market Hall have a busy market in Sandbach.

The Market in Crewe is held on a Monday morning, and all day on a Friday and Saturday, with a car boot sale on Wednesday. In Nantwich there is a market on Tuesday morning and all day Thursday and Saturday with a car boot sale on Fridays.

In Ellesmere Port there is a 'flea market' on a Monday, Thursday and Sunday and a more traditional market on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The market in Neston is held on a Friday.

Macclesfield's indoor market is held in the Grosvenor Centre six days per week between Monday and Saturday. The outdoor markets are held in Castle Street and Churchill Way on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Knutsford has a market on a Friday and Saturday, and Wilmslow has a market on a Friday.

In Vale Royal Frodsham has a outdoor market along the main street on a Thursday, whilst the Market Centre in Northwich is open on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Winsford market is held on Monday, Thursday and Saturday.

There are also regular Farmers Markets in Cheshire.

Wherever you shop in Cheshire you can be sure that the  Trading Standards Service of Cheshire County Council are doing their best to ensure that you get a fair deal.

Just outside Cheshire boundaries are the large retail parks in Hanley, Cheadle, Trafford Park and Warrington and the cities of Manchester and Liverpool.
