What is Accessibility?

Accessibility is the ease with which people can reach jobs and essential services, such as healthcare, education, food shops and other destinations that are important to local residents. If people cannot access the key services they need at reasonable cost, in reasonable time and with reasonable ease, their quality of life suffers.

Consultation

The County Council are currently reviewing Cheshire’s Accessibility Strategy. A number of proposed priorities have been identified for further analysis and consultation. A twelve week consultation period has been scheduled beginning on Monday 30th June 2008 and closing on Friday 19th September 2008.

What do you think? What should be our priorities for the future? Please take a few moments to read the consultation document and complete the questionnaire below to let us know your views:

This is just one part of our consultation activities. We have also arranged a number of meetings with partner organisations to help inform this debate. It is our hope that the consultation will help identify priority areas, groups and issues on which future resources and action should be targeted.

Following the consultation, a revised Accessibility Strategy will be produced. This will inform and identify accessibility priorities that will need to be taken forward by the new local authorities of Cheshire West & Chester and Cheshire East following Local Government Reorganisation in April 2009.

What Happens Next?

  • 30 June – 19 September: Consultation period
  • September - October: Preparation of revised Accessibility Strategy
  • November: Finalisation and approval of new strategy
  • November - December: Submission to Government and feedback on assessment
  • December onwards: Refining action plans and delivery
  • January onwards: Dialogue with shadow authorities for taking accessibility planning forwards in Cheshire West & Chester and Cheshire East beyond April 2009
