The Animate project is a Council partnership between the Arts, Libraries and Children’s Services departments.
There are around 500 children "looked after" by the Council, mostly in foster care. The Animate project aims to develop an appreciation of what libraries have to offer for looked after children and their carers, whilst increasing and improving access. The project aspires to boost children’s confidence and self-esteem by giving them an opportunity to express themselves via an animated and interactive web story which will offer advice to others looked after children.
Through the coming months, Animate will hold Creative Workshops for young people aged between 11 and 16 to work in a variety of ways with artists, writers and facilitators, to document their life events in writing and art, leading up to the unveiling of the web story.
Animate recently completed opening ceremonies in libraries Cheshire wide, at which children in care could receive two free books of their choice.
