Many of the organisations listed below may offer useful fact sheets, or have published handbooks on relevant topics which you can order via them or obtain through your local library.
- Arts Access UK is an access guide to the arts in Britain.
- The Art House is an inclusive membership organisation for visual artists, providing networking, professional development, training and opportunities.
- The Arts Council is the national development agency for the arts in England. Go to 'My region', 'North West' region for local info.
- British Dyslexia Association (BDA) is the national organisation for dyslexic people.
- Candoco is a contemporary dance company and a leading training and education provider of integrated dance practice.
- Cheshire Association of Local Councils (CHALC) for information, training and advice on town and parish councils. Refer to them for info on funding and venues.
- Chester Voluntary Action aims to promote and support voluntary action in Chester and district.
- Common Ground Sign Dance Theatre is a Cultural Performing Company who create unique performances and community workshops through the fusion of sign language, dance and physical theatre, which are accessible to all audiences.
- Culture.info aims to be the first port-of-call for users seeking cultural information on a particular topic; associations and networks, funding and development bodies, support and resource agencies, portals and information sources.
- Direct Gov - Disabled People provides tonnes of info for disabled people such as The Disability Discrimination Act 2005.
- Disabled Workers Co-operative is a registered charity that helps disabled people to help themselves.
- Disability Arts in Shropshire (DASh) is a disability arts user led organisation, running arts projects across Shropshire and beyond.
- The Disability Rights Commission (DRC) is an independent body established in April 2000 by Act of Parliament to stop discrimination and promote equality of opportunity for disabled people.
- Equata is south west England disability arts development agency.
- Full Circle Arts is a user led company and exists as a regional resource for Disability Arts, based in Manchester. Also has toolkits on the site.
- Good Gallery Guide is an online portal to the visual arts in the United Kingdom. Each gallery mini-site contains detailed access information for disabled visitors.
- National Disability Arts Forum (NDAF) aims to create equality of opportunity for disabled people in all aspects of the arts.
- North West Disability Arts Forum (NWDAF) is a leading Disability Arts Development Agency, based in Liverpool and working throughout the northwest region of England, increasingly nationally and internationally.
- Public Art offers practical advice on the art commissioning process.
- Public Art Research Archive contains lots of images of artwork across the UK. Provided by Sheffield Hallam University.
- The Pyramid of Arts is a Leeds based organisation, good for project inspiration.
- Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB) provides See it Right guidelines: information about producing accessible information.
- Royal National Institute for the Deaf (RNID) is the largest charity working to change the world for the UK’s 9 million deaf and hard of hearing people.
- The Sensory Trust promotes and implements: an inclusive approach to design and management of outdoor space, richer connections between people and place, and equality of access for all people, regardless of age, disability or background.
- Shape is the country’s leading disability arts organisation, whose aim to improve access to the arts for deaf and disabled people whilst supporting deaf and disabled artists to challenge perceptions and promote deaf and disability culture.
- Signed Performances In Theatre (SPIT) is the leading national body for promoting BSL interpreted performances of mainstream theatre. SPIT aims to provide a link between arts organisations and the deaf community, and to ensure that the high standard of British theatre is accessible to deaf and hard of hearing people. - Trades Union Congress (TUC) is the voice of Britain at work. With 66 affiliated unions representing nearly seven million working people from all walks of life, they campaign for a fair deal at work and for social justice at home and abroad.
- The United Kingdom's Council of Disabled People (UKDPC) is the UK's national organisation of the worldwide Disabled People's Movement. Set up in 1981 by disabled people to promote full equality and participation in UK society, and now represents some 70 groups run by disabled people in the UK at national level.
- Vocaleyes is a nationwide audio description company for blind and partially sighted people providing access to the best in the arts.
