The County Council has “maintained its high level in services for children, adults and older people, along with high levels of user satisfaction with overall services” according to the independent Audit Commission watchdog.
Its verdict resulted from a new approach to the Comprehensive Performance Assessment of local authorities.
Improvements in some of our priority areas were highlighted but we need more focus on waste recycling, road and footway improvements, and looked after children re-offending rates.
And our use of resources must be better.
We were judged to be "improving adequately" and demonstrating a "3 star" overall performance - but the County Council believes this confirmed our own view that there is a need to change the way we work.
The Council’s new Corporate Plan due for publication in May will set out a challenging agenda for improvement which will increase our ability to deliver our priorities while maintaining the high standards of our core services.
The Audit Commission will be returning to the County Council later this year to assess our progress.
