I do, I do
Each year over 5000 newlyweds marry in a civil wedding ceremony conducted by one of the 37-strong specialist workforce of the Council registration service.
Apart from local register offices, there are now nearly 100 approved venues for civil wedding ceremonies, where around 1500 couples choose to ‘tie the knot’.
Rites of Passage
Celebrants also conduct special ceremonies to celebrate the renewal renewal of marriage vows, naming ceremonies following the birth of a child and, more recently, civil funerals.
Registrars are also available in a range of venues for the official registration of births and deaths.
Tracing the past
Thanks to a partnership with the Cheshire Family History Society, indexes of births, marriages and deaths are becoming available on the Internet - making the Council the first in the country to offer this.
Although the indexes are not yet complete for all years and districts, the database will eventually cover Cheshire births, marriages and deaths from the passing of the Parliamentary Act in 1837 to 1950. This successful project now has a global following for tracing ancestry. Visit Cheshire BMD
